SQL Server 2017 Administration Inside Out was the first technical book I contributed to, and all its authors were very happy with how it turned out. All the content was written from scratch, which made it quite challenging to manage (it originally started as a book about SQL Server 2016, and then Microsoft surprised everyone by releasing SQL Server 2017).
While I originally signed on for only three chapters, I ended up doing more than that. William Assaf did the most work, which is why his name is first on the cover. Good job, William.
In 2018 we got the idea in our heads to write a SQL sequel, this time titled SQL Server 2019 Administration Inside Out. We’re still putting the final touches on it, but you can pre-order it from Amazon now.
This time we were able to build on the content from the previous book, however that made it only slightly less work, as we had to make sure everything was still accurate and relevant, in addition to including a bunch of new features into the mix.
