On 1 December 2018, Microsoft is increasing Azure subscription prices in Canadian dollars by 5%. The following is taken directly from the email I received on 1 November 2018.
Starting December 1, 2018, prices for Azure services in the Canadian dollar will increase by 5 percent to more closely align to Azure pricing in US dollars. Even after this adjustment, customers buying in the Canadian dollar will continue to find Azure offerings highly competitive.
Microsoft periodically assesses its pricing of products and services across the globe to ensure reasonable alignment across regions. This change to Azure prices is an outcome of this assessment.
Here is how this change affects Azure customers purchasing in the Canadian dollar:
Enterprise Agreements (EA) or Enterprise Subscription Agreements (EAS), MPSA, or Server and Cloud Enrollments (SCE)
Customers or partners who purchased Azure within an EA, EAS, MPSA or SCE agreement have price protection on currently offered Azure services and will receive the lower of the baseline price or the new market price. A baseline price is the price at the beginning of an Azure agreement or the price at which a new Azure service was made generally available. If the new market price is higher than the baseline prices, customers may see an increase up to but not above their baseline prices. New Azure services will be priced as noted on the then-current pricelist.
Pay-as-you-go subscriptions
Customers under the pay-as-you-go model enjoy the benefits of no minimum purchase requirements and have flexible pricing. For these customers, prices will increase effective December 1, 2018. Pricing for customers purchasing Azure in the Canadian dollar will be comparable to pricing in US dollars as listed on Azure.com.
Azure in Cloud Solution Program (CSP)
In CSP, end-customer pricing for Azure services is determined by the channel partner. Microsoft pricing to the CSP partner is under the pay-as-you-go model with the benefits of no minimum purchase requirements and flexible pricing. For CSP partners, pricing in the Canadian dollar will increase effective December 1, 2018, to be commensurate with prices in US dollars listed on Azure.com.
Azure purchased via Open
Consumption rates will increase effective December 1, 2018, to the new pricing in the Canadian dollar, which will be comparable to pricing in US dollars listed on Azure.com.
Prepaid subscriptions on Azure.com (retired for new customer sign-ups as of October 1, 2016)
For previously offered prepaid subscriptions, the amount, discount, and terms remain unchanged. Consumption rates will increase effective December 1, 2018, to the new pricing in the Canadian dollar.
